The production of my solo album Fashion After Dark is moving along at a blistering pace. It’ll drop before you know it. And it’s currently Guitar Week at my home studio. Laying down a lead guitar track for each song. Along with approaching guitar solely as a lead instrument at this point, I also want to express myself on the instrument in a variety of fashions. There will be plenty of my jagged shredding in the vein of my influences Jeff Beck and Steve Stevens. But also some slow and soaring David Gilmour-esque melodies, acoustic Delta blues slide, and prepared guitar. Prepared guitar is the practice of altering the instrument’s timbre by manipulating its strings with various objects. This is definitely avant-garde shit you won’t hear on the radio. An unorthodox approach that can yield abrasive and haunting soundscapes. Something ideal for one song on my album. I’d never attempted prepared guitar until now. Yes, the piece behind the paywall is my first time. Composed and recorded exclusively for paid subscribers before recording the prepared guitar track for my album.
